How is the elapsed time calculated?

Is the counter affected by my time zone?

Yes — calculations run in your browser using your local clock and time zone. If you enter a date without a time, midnight (00:00:00) in your local time is assumed.

Can I calculate time since a future date?

No — this tool is for past dates only. For countdowns to a future event, use a countdown timer tool instead.

Why do the months and days sometimes seem off by one?

Calendar months have different lengths (28–31 days), so "1 month" is not always 30 days. The tool counts calendar months exactly, then counts remaining days in the current partial month.

Does the page need to stay open to keep counting?

Yes — the counter runs as JavaScript in your browser tab. If you close the tab, the calculation stops. Reload the page and re-enter the date to resume. Your event name and date are not stored or added to the page URL.

How many seconds have passed since a time earlier today?

Does 10-09-2014 mean October 9 or September 10?

It depends on the writer. In the US it is October 9, 2014, while most other countries read it as September 10, 2014. The date picker removes the doubt. On October 8, 2026 the first reading gives 11 years 11 months 29 days and the second gives 12 years 0 months 28 days.
