The tool subtracts the entered date/time from the current local time. Years and months are counted calendar-exactly (accounting for varying month lengths and leap years), then the remaining days, hours, minutes, and seconds are derived from the leftover milliseconds.

Is the counter affected by my time zone?

Yes — calculations run in your browser using your local clock and time zone. If you enter a date without a time, midnight (00:00:00) in your local time is assumed.

Can I calculate time since a future date?

No — this tool is for past dates only. For countdowns to a future event, use a countdown timer tool instead.

Why do the months and days sometimes seem off by one?

Calendar months have different lengths (28–31 days), so "1 month" is not always 30 days. The tool counts calendar months exactly, then counts remaining days in the current partial month.
