Summary
Enter your print dimensions, coverage percentage, ink density, and copy count to get total ink consumption in grams and milliliters.
How it works
- Enter the width and height of the print area in millimeters or inches.
- Set the ink coverage percentage — the fraction of the print area that is actually covered with ink.
- Enter the ink film thickness in microns (typical offset lithography: 1–3 µm; screen printing: 5–30 µm).
- Provide the ink density in g/cm³ (most offset inks: 1.0–1.3 g/cm³; UV inks: 1.1–1.5 g/cm³).
- Enter the number of copies in the print run.
- The calculator multiplies area × coverage × film thickness × density × copies and displays total ink weight in grams and volume in milliliters.
Use cases
- Estimate ink costs before quoting a commercial print job.
- Compare ink consumption between different coverage designs.
- Plan ink stock levels for a production run.
- Reduce over-ordering and minimize leftover ink waste.
- Benchmark ink usage across different substrates and ink types.
- Verify ink consumption figures from press operators.
