Summary

Enter your print dimensions and target DPI to get the required pixel count, or enter pixel dimensions and print size to find the effective DPI.

How it works

  1. Choose a mode: "Find required pixels" to plan a shoot or check specs, or "Find effective DPI" to evaluate an existing image.
  2. Enter the target print width and height in inches or centimeters.
  3. For required-pixel mode, set the target DPI (300 for professional print, 150 for large-format, 72 for screen).
  4. For effective-DPI mode, enter your image's pixel width and height.
  5. The calculator multiplies (or divides) dimensions by the DPI value and returns results with a quality rating.

Use cases

  • Check whether a photo has enough resolution for a specific print size before ordering.
  • Find the minimum megapixels needed for a large-format banner or poster.
  • Determine the ideal canvas size when creating artwork for print in Photoshop or Illustrator.
  • Validate stock photo resolution against client print specifications.
  • Plan camera settings or scanning resolution for an upcoming print job.
  • Compare DPI requirements across standard print types: business cards, brochures, posters, and billboards.
