Does the offset change throughout the year?

No. Brazil permanently abolished DST in April 2019 (Decree 9.772). Sao Paulo is fixed at BRT (UTC-3) year-round, and Tokyo stays at JST (UTC+9), so Tokyo is always exactly 12 hours ahead.

What time zones does this tool use?

Tokyo uses the Asia/Tokyo IANA zone (JST, UTC+9 always). Sao Paulo uses America/Sao_Paulo (BRT, UTC-3, permanently — Brazil no longer observes BRST).

Does this handle Daylight Saving Time automatically?

Yes. The tool uses the JavaScript Intl API with named IANA zones, so DST transitions are handled by your browser automatically.

What if the converted Sao Paulo time falls on the previous day?

The tool handles wrap-around and labels times that fall on the previous day with a "-1 day" badge so there is no ambiguity.

Is Sao Paulo always the same as Brazil Standard Time?

Sao Paulo follows the America/Sao_Paulo IANA time zone, which aligns with official Brazilian time rules. Other Brazilian states may differ, but Sao Paulo is the most common reference for business.

Summary

Tokyo (Asia/Tokyo, JST UTC+9) is always 12 hours ahead of Sao Paulo (America/Sao_Paulo, BRT UTC-3). Brazil abolished daylight saving time in 2019, so Sao Paulo no longer observes BRST and the offset stays at a fixed 12 hours. This tool shows both live clocks, calculates the current offset automatically, and lets you select any Tokyo hour to see the exact corresponding Sao Paulo time.

How it works

Your browser reads the current UTC time.
It converts UTC to Tokyo local time (Asia/Tokyo, UTC+9, no DST).
It converts UTC to Sao Paulo local time (America/Sao_Paulo, BRT UTC-3).
The offset is computed as the difference between the two local times.
When you pick a Tokyo hour from the selector, the tool subtracts the offset to show the Sao Paulo equivalent.

Use cases

Schedule a call between a Tokyo office and a Sao Paulo partner.
Check whether Sao Paulo colleagues are still in the office when you start your Tokyo morning.
Plan webinars or live streams that span both cities.
Quickly verify what time a Tokyo deadline falls in Sao Paulo.
Calculate overlap windows for remote teams split across Japan and Brazil.
