How is equity calculated?

The tool uses a Monte Carlo simulation: it randomly deals the remaining unknown cards thousands of times and counts how often your hand wins or ties. The result converges quickly to accurate probabilities.

What does "outs" mean?

Outs are the number of unseen cards in the deck that would improve your hand. A flush draw has 9 outs; an open-ended straight draw has 8. Multiply outs by 2 for the turn probability and by 4 for turn+river combined (the Rule of 4).

Why does equity change so much on the flop vs. the river?

With more community cards revealed, fewer unknown cards remain, so probabilities become more precise. A coin-flip pre-flop can become a near-certain win or loss by the river.

Does this support Omaha or other variants?

This calculator is designed for Texas Hold'em (2 hole cards, up to 5 community cards). Omaha uses 4 hole cards and different hand-selection rules, so results would not apply.

How accurate is the Monte Carlo estimate?

The simulation runs 10,000 random trials, giving accuracy within about 1 percentage point. For exact combinatorial results (especially pre-flop), the tool also shows exact hand category probabilities.
