Does my file get uploaded to a server?

No. Everything runs in your browser using pdf.js and the FileReader API. Your PDF file never leaves your device.

What types of PDFs are supported?

Any standard PDF with a real text layer is supported. Scanned PDFs that are images without a text layer will return little or no text because there is no embedded text to extract — OCR is not performed.

Why is my PDF returning empty or garbled text?

If the PDF is a scanned image, it has no text layer and extraction will be empty. Password-protected or DRM-locked PDFs may also fail. For scanned documents, you need an OCR tool instead.

Is formatting preserved?

No. The output is plain text only — no bold, italics, tables, or images. Page breaks are marked with a separator line. Text order follows the PDF's internal layout, which may differ slightly from the visual order for complex layouts.

How large a PDF can I process?

There is no hard limit, but very large PDFs (hundreds of pages or heavy graphics) may take longer to process since everything runs in the browser tab. For best performance keep files under 50 MB.

Can I copy just part of the extracted text?

Yes. The preview panel is a selectable text area. You can select any portion and copy it manually, or use the Copy All button to copy the entire extracted text.
