What is AZW3 and why convert it to MOBI?

AZW3 (Kindle Format 8 / KF8) is Amazon's modern Kindle format with advanced CSS and layout support. MOBI is its older predecessor, supported by all Kindle generations and some third-party apps. Converting to MOBI is useful for older devices or software that cannot render AZW3 correctly.

Will my AZW3 file be uploaded anywhere?

What if the converted MOBI looks different from the original?

AZW3 uses advanced CSS that MOBI does not fully support. Calibre downgrades the formatting during conversion. Complex tables, multi-column layouts, and advanced fonts may not render perfectly in the MOBI output. This is a format limitation, not a Calibre bug.
