Add your TXT file to Calibre
Open Calibre. In the toolbar click "Add books" (or press A). Browse to your
.txtfile and click Open. The book appears in the Calibre library list. -
3
Open the Convert dialog
Right-click the book in the library and choose "Convert books" → "Convert individually". The conversion dialog opens. You can also select the book and click the "Convert books" button in the toolbar.
-
4
Set Output format to AZW3
In the top-right corner of the Convert dialog, find the "Output format" dropdown and select AZW3. Leave Input format on Auto-detect unless Calibre chose the wrong format.
-
5
Fill in metadata and click OK
Switch to the Metadata tab and enter the book title, author, and language. Optionally add a cover image under "Look & Feel". Click OK to start conversion — it usually completes in seconds.
-
6
Save the AZW3 file
Right-click the converted book in the library and choose "Save to disk" to export the
.azw3file to a folder of your choice. Transfer it to your Kindle via USB or Send to Kindle.
USB Cable
Connect Kindle via USB. Copy the .azw3 file to the documents folder on the device.
Send to Kindle
Email the .azw3 file to your Kindle email address (found in Amazon account settings under "Manage Your Content").
Send to Kindle App
Use the free "Send to Kindle" desktop app (Windows/macOS) to wirelessly push the file to your device.
-
Title and Author are mandatory
Without a title, Calibre uses the filename. Always fill both fields so the book displays correctly in the Kindle library.
-
Author format: Last, First
Calibre sorts authors as "Last, First" (e.g. Twain, Mark). This controls alphabetical ordering in the Kindle library.
-
Cover image: 1600 × 2400 px
Add a JPEG or PNG cover in the "Look & Feel" tab. Recommended size is 1600 × 2400 pixels (2:3 ratio) for a crisp display on high-DPI Kindles.
-
Set Language for correct hyphenation
The language field controls dictionary look-ups and hyphenation on the Kindle. Use standard codes:
en,fr,de, etc. -
Paragraph detection for plain text
In the Convert dialog go to Look & Feel → Text processing. If paragraphs look wrong, toggle "Detect structure" or set "Insert blank line between paragraphs" to get correct spacing.
-
Series and series index
For books in a series, fill in the Series and Series index fields so Kindle displays the reading order (e.g. Book 1 of 3).
