What are PDF bookmarks?

PDF bookmarks (also called an outline) are navigation links shown in the sidebar of PDF viewers like Adobe Acrobat or browser PDF readers. They let readers jump directly to specific pages.

Does this tool support nested/hierarchical bookmarks?

This tool reads and lists all top-level bookmarks from the existing outline. New bookmarks you add are inserted at the top level. Nested hierarchies from the original file are preserved in the download.

What happens if a page number is out of range?

The tool validates the page number against the actual page count and shows an inline error if the number is invalid. Page numbers start at 1.

Can I edit encrypted or password-protected PDFs?

Encrypted PDFs may fail to load. Remove the password protection first using a PDF unlock tool, then edit the bookmarks.

Will editing bookmarks change the PDF content or layout?

No. Bookmarks are stored in the PDF outline structure, separate from page content. Adding or removing them has no effect on text, images, or formatting.
