How is the exam average calculated in equal-weighted mode?

Each exam is converted to a percentage (score divided by max score, multiplied by 100). The overall average is the arithmetic mean of all those percentages, so every exam contributes equally regardless of its maximum point value.

How does custom weighting work?

You assign a weight percentage to each exam — for example, 20% for quizzes and 40% for the final. The calculator multiplies each exam's percentage by its weight, sums the results, and divides by the total weight. If weights do not sum to 100, the tool normalizes automatically and shows a warning.

Can I use scores that are not out of 100?

Yes. Set the "Out of" field for each exam to its actual maximum value (e.g., 50, 200). The tool converts every score to a percentage before averaging, so different maximum values are handled correctly.

How is the letter grade determined?

The default scale is A = 90%+, B = 80%+, C = 70%+, D = 60%+, F = below 60%. You can customize every cutoff in the Grade Scale panel on the right to match your instructor's grading policy.

What if I leave some exams blank?

Rows where both Score and Out Of are left blank are ignored. Only rows with a valid score and a positive maximum value contribute to the average. This lets you pre-enter exam names before you have the scores.
