What is the Add Points curving method?

Every raw score receives a flat addition of the specified number of points. For example, adding 5 points turns a 72 into a 77. Scores are capped at 100 after the addition.

How does the square root curve work?

Each raw score is divided by 100, the square root is taken, then the result is multiplied by 100. The formula is: curved = sqrt(raw / 100) × 100. A raw 64 becomes sqrt(0.64) × 100 = 80. This method benefits lower scores more than higher ones.

What does "Scale to Highest Score" mean?

The highest raw score in the class is mapped to the target maximum (typically 100), and all other scores are scaled proportionally. Formula: curved = (raw / highest) × target. If the highest raw score is 85 and the target is 100, a student who scored 68 gets 68/85 × 100 ≈ 80.

Can scores exceed 100 after curving?

The Add Points method caps adjusted scores at 100 by default. The Square Root and Scale to Highest Score methods are mathematically bounded at the target maximum, so no score exceeds 100 unless you set a target above 100 in the Scale method.

How are letter grades assigned?

The default scale is A ≥ 90, B ≥ 80, C ≥ 70, D ≥ 60, F below 60. You can adjust each cutoff in the Grade Scale panel.
