What is pattern repeat?

Pattern repeat is the vertical distance after which the wallpaper design repeats itself. For example, a 21-inch repeat means every strip must be cut to start at the same point in the pattern, wasting up to one repeat length per strip. Plain or texture-only wallpaper has a repeat of 0.

Why do I need extra rolls for pattern matching?

When aligning a repeating pattern across adjacent strips, you lose material at the top or bottom of each strip. The larger the repeat, the more waste per strip. A 10–15% waste allowance is typical for patterns; 5–10% is fine for plain wallpaper.

How wide and long is a standard roll?

Standard US rolls are typically 27 inches wide and 27 feet long (about 5.5 sq ft per single roll). European rolls are commonly 20.5 inches wide and 33 feet long. Always check the label, as sizes vary between manufacturers and collections.

Should I buy extra rolls?

Yes. Always round up to the nearest whole roll and consider buying one or two extra. Dye lots can vary between print runs, so having spares from the same lot lets you repair patches later without a color mismatch.

How are doors and windows handled?

The calculator subtracts a standard door area (20 sq ft / 1.85 m²) and a standard window area (15 sq ft / 1.39 m²) for each unit you enter. This gives a net paintable wall area before calculating roll count.

Can I calculate a feature wall only?
