Why does this produce a JPEG instead of HEIC?

The standard browser Canvas API does not encode HEIC/HEIF. This tool therefore produces a correctly labeled .jpg intermediate file; renaming JPEG bytes to .heic would create an invalid file. Use a native HEIC encoder for the final step.

Is my SVG uploaded to a server?

No. All processing runs entirely inside your browser using the FileReader API and HTML5 Canvas. Your SVG is never transmitted over the network.
