Is my PDF uploaded to a server?

No. All processing happens entirely in your browser using PDF.js. Your file never leaves your device.

Why does some text look garbled or missing?

PDFs that contain scanned images instead of real text cannot be extracted this way — their "text" is actually a picture. Only PDFs with embedded text layers work. For image-based PDFs you would need OCR software.

Does this preserve formatting like bold or columns?

Plain text extraction does not preserve rich formatting. Text is extracted in reading order as the PDF encodes it, which may differ from the visual layout for multi-column documents.

Is there a file size limit?

There is no hard limit imposed by this tool. Very large PDFs may take a few seconds to process because everything runs in the browser.

Can I extract text from password-protected PDFs?

If the PDF has a user password, you will be prompted to enter it before text can be extracted. Owner-locked PDFs (print/copy restrictions) can usually still have their text extracted because restrictions are advisory for client-side tools.
