Summary

This password generator uses the Web Cryptography API (window.crypto.getRandomValues) to produce true random passwords, unlike Math.random() which is not cryptographically secure. You can configure password length from 4 to 128 characters, enable or disable lowercase letters, uppercase letters, digits, and symbols, and optionally exclude visually similar characters or ambiguous symbols. Strength is estimated using entropy bits, giving you a clear label from Weak to Excellent.

How it works

  1. Set the desired password length using the slider or the number input (range: 4–128, default 16).
  2. Check or uncheck the character set options: lowercase, uppercase, digits, and symbols.
  3. Optionally check "Exclude similar characters" to remove i, l, 1, L, o, 0, O from the pool.
  4. Optionally check "Exclude ambiguous symbols" to remove {}[]()/\'"~,;.<> from the pool.
  5. The password updates automatically with every setting change. Click "Regenerate" to get a fresh one.
  6. Click "Copy" next to any password to copy it to your clipboard.
  7. Click "Generate batch of 10" to produce ten passwords at once, each with its own Copy button.

Use cases

  • Creating a strong master password for a password manager.
  • Generating unique passwords for every online account.
  • Producing secure API keys and secret tokens for development.
  • Setting up Wi-Fi passphrases that are long but memorable if symbols are excluded.
  • Generating temporary passwords for new user accounts.
  • Creating passphrases for encrypted archives or disk images.
  • Demonstrating password entropy and strength in security training.
  • Replacing weak reused passwords across multiple services.
