How it works
- Choose "Flow Rate" to find how much plastic your current settings push per second, or "Max Speed" to find the fastest safe speed for a given flow limit.
- Enter your nozzle diameter, then set the line width (defaults to 1.2x the nozzle diameter, a common slicer default).
- Enter the layer height you plan to print at.
- In Flow Rate mode, enter your print speed to get the resulting mm3/s.
- In Max Speed mode, enter your hotend's rated max flow (mm3/s) to get the top print speed that stays under it.
- Compare the result against typical hotend flow ratings shown below to judge headroom.
Use cases
- Check whether a fast print profile exceeds a stock hotend's flow capacity.
- Tune print speed after switching to a high-flow hotend upgrade.
- Diagnose under-extrusion or gaps that only appear at high speed.
- Find the top speed a nozzle can sustain at a given layer height before slicing a large model.
