Summary
The Harvest Yield Estimator calculates how many plants fit in your growing area and multiplies by the expected yield per plant for your chosen crop. It covers over 20 common vegetables and herbs with research-based yield averages. Results show plant count, total weight in both pounds and kilograms, and an equivalent in common grocery quantities.
How it works
- Enter your plot length and width in feet.
- Select your crop from the dropdown — each has a preset yield and spacing.
- Adjust plant spacing if you use a different density than the default.
- Click Estimate Yield to see plant count, total weight, and grocery equivalent.
- Switch between pounds and kilograms with the unit toggle.
- Override the yield per plant if you have your own data from past seasons.
Use cases
- Plan how much freezer or canning capacity you need before harvest.
- Compare crop choices to maximize yield from a fixed plot size.
- Estimate surplus produce to share, donate, or sell at market.
- Size a new raised bed to hit a target weight for a specific vegetable.
- Check whether a small balcony container garden is worth the effort.
- Teach school garden students about area, density, and food production.
