Growth Velocity
Typical Reference Range
Reference ranges are approximate medians from WHO/CDC pediatric growth standards. Individual variation is normal. Always consult a pediatrician for clinical assessment.
Summary
The Growth Velocity Calculator computes how fast a child is gaining height or weight between two measurements. Enter the measurement values, the child's age, and the time interval to get the velocity in cm/month, cm/year, kg/month, or kg/year. Results are shown alongside typical pediatric reference ranges so you can quickly see whether the pace of growth is within the expected window for that age group.
How it works
- Select height or weight as the measurement type.
- Choose metric (cm/kg) or US customary (in/lbs) units.
- Enter the child's age in months at the first measurement.
- Enter the first and second measurement values.
- Enter the number of days between the two measurements.
- The tool computes the gain, converts to per-month and per-year rates, and compares to age-specific reference ranges.
Use cases
- Track infant length gain between well-child visits.
- Monitor weight gain in premature or low-birth-weight babies.
- Identify potential growth faltering early for pediatric follow-up.
- Check if a toddler's height velocity is within the normal range.
- Compare growth rate before and after a dietary or medical intervention.
- Document serial measurements for a child's health record.
