What is a score differential?

A score differential measures your performance relative to the difficulty of the course. The formula is: (Adjusted Gross Score − Course Rating) × 113 ÷ Slope Rating. Most golf apps and scorecards provide this automatically.

How many differentials does WHS use?

WHS uses between 1 and 8 of your lowest differentials depending on how many you have recorded, following a specific lookup table. For example, with 20 differentials it uses the lowest 8; with 5 differentials it uses the lowest 1.

Why is the result multiplied by 0.96?

The 0.96 factor is the WHS playing conditions calculation (PCC) adjustment built into the base formula. It ensures that handicaps reflect expected performance rather than best-ever rounds, keeping competition fair.

What is the maximum Handicap Index?

Under the World Handicap System, the maximum Handicap Index is 54.0 for all players, regardless of gender. This replaced the previous separate male/female maximums.

Do I need a minimum number of rounds?

You need at least 3 score differentials to receive a Handicap Index under WHS. With fewer than 3 differentials, a handicap cannot be calculated.

Is this calculator official?
