Bleed is extra artwork that extends beyond the finished trim edge of a document. It prevents white borders appearing when the printed sheet is cut, because the cut is never perfectly precise. A standard bleed is 3 mm (0.125 in) on each side.

What is a safe area or margin?

The safe area (also called the live area) is the inner zone where important content — text, logos, key images — must stay. It sits inside the trim line by the margin distance, protecting content from being accidentally trimmed away.
