How many words are in the dictionary?

The solver uses ENABLE, a public-domain list of 168,551 English words from 2 to 15 letters that many word games are built on. It is downloaded once (about 440 KB compressed) the first time you solve, then everything runs in your browser.

What does the ? wildcard do?

A ? acts as a blank tile — it can represent any single letter. For example, entering "c?t" will match "cat", "cut", "cot", and other 3-letter words that fit.

Yes. Words are grouped by length (longest first), and within each group they are sorted alphabetically.

Is this tool 100% offline?

After the word list has loaded, yes. The list and the matching run in your browser, and the letters you type are never sent to a server.

What is the maximum input length?

You can enter up to 15 characters, letters and ? wildcards together, which covers a full Scrabble board row.

Is an anagram solver the same as a word unscrambler?

They do the same job. A strict anagram uses all of the letters, while an unscrambler also lists shorter words. This tool shows both: full-length matches at the top and shorter words below, filtered by the minimum length you set.

Can I use it for Scrabble or Words With Friends?
