What is a normal transferrin saturation?

Normal TSAT is generally 20%–50% in adults. Values below 20% suggest iron-deficient erythropoiesis; values above 45%–50% raise concern for iron overload and may warrant ferritin and genetic testing.

What is the formula used?

Transferrin Saturation (%) = (Serum Iron ÷ TIBC) × 100. Both values must be in the same unit before dividing.
