What is the difference between character mode and word mode?

Character mode counts every character (including spaces) and cuts the text at the specified number. Word mode splits on whitespace and keeps only the first N words regardless of their length.

What does "Trim at word boundary" do in character mode?

When enabled, the tool walks backward from the cut point to the nearest space so the last kept character is not in the middle of a word. The suffix is then appended. If no space is found the hard cut position is used.

Can I use a custom suffix instead of the ellipsis?

Yes. Clear the suffix field for a hard cut with no suffix, or type any string such as " [read more]" or "..." (three dots instead of the single ellipsis character).

Does the suffix count toward the limit?

No. The limit controls how many characters or words are kept from the original text. The suffix is appended afterward and does not consume part of the limit.

What happens if the text is already shorter than the limit?

The text is returned unchanged with no suffix appended — truncation only occurs when the original exceeds the specified limit.
