Summary

Add your grain bill ingredients with weights and Lovibond ratings, enter batch size, and instantly see the predicted SRM color with a visual swatch.

How it works

  1. Enter your total batch size in gallons.
  2. Add each grain or malt with its weight in pounds and its Lovibond (°L) rating from the package.
  3. The calculator computes Malt Color Units (MCU) for each ingredient: (weight × Lovibond) / batch size.
  4. Total MCU is converted to SRM using the Morey equation: SRM = 1.4922 × MCU^0.6859.
  5. The resulting SRM value is displayed with a color swatch and descriptive style label.

Use cases

  • Predict beer color before brew day to match a target style.
  • Adjust grain bill proportions to hit a specific SRM range for a style guide.
  • Compare light vs. dark malt additions and see the color impact.
  • Document recipe color for batch notes and repeatability.
  • Verify a clone recipe color matches the commercial original.
