What is the dose-estimate formula?

Estimated platelets required (×10⁹) = desired count increase (×10⁹/L) × estimated blood volume (L) ÷ recovery fraction. This is a planning model, not a transfusion order.

Why is product type explicit?

“One unit” can mean different products. Presets distinguish a 300 ×10⁹ adult apheresis/pooled dose from a 60 ×10⁹ single whole-blood-derived concentrate. Use the bag label or blood-bank value when available.

How is BSA calculated?

Mosteller BSA (m²) = √(height in cm × weight in kg ÷ 3600). The result can be overridden.

Can this calculator determine whether to transfuse?

No. Indication, bleeding, procedure, diagnosis, and patient context determine clinical decisions under local protocol.
