What is percentile rank?

Percentile rank (PR) expresses the percentage of scores in a dataset that fall below a given score. A PR of 80 means the score is higher than 80% of all scores in the group.

What is the difference between the Strict and Midpoint formulas?

The Strict formula counts only values strictly below the target: PR = (count below / n) × 100. The Midpoint (inclusive) formula also accounts for ties: PR = (count below + 0.5 × count equal) / n × 100. The midpoint formula is preferred in educational testing contexts.

What if my target score is not in the dataset?

You can still calculate the percentile rank. The tool counts how many dataset values fall strictly below the target score, regardless of whether the target itself is in the dataset.

Does the order of scores I enter matter?

No. The tool sorts all scores internally before computing ranks. You can enter scores in any order.

How many scores can I enter?

What does a percentile rank of 0 mean?
