Summary

Calculate weight-based medication doses for children. Enter child weight and select a medication to get single dose in mg and liquid volume in mL.

How it works

  1. Enter the child's weight in kilograms or pounds — the unit toggle converts pounds to kg automatically.
  2. Select a medication from the preset list, or choose Custom to enter your own dose per kg (mg/kg).
  3. The calculator multiplies weight (kg) by the dose (mg/kg) to give the single dose in milligrams.
  4. Optionally enter the liquid concentration (mg/mL) to convert the dose into a volume to administer in mL.
  5. Review the single dose, daily maximum, and mL volume before giving the medication.

Use cases

  • Calculate acetaminophen or ibuprofen doses for a febrile child.
  • Determine amoxicillin dose for a child with an ear infection.
  • Convert a prescribed mg/kg dose to mL for a liquid suspension.
  • Double-check a dosing calculation before administration.
