Are my images uploaded to a server?

What happens with animated GIFs?

Only the first frame of an animated GIF is extracted and converted to PNG. This is because the Canvas API renders the image at the moment it is drawn, which captures the initial frame. If you need a later frame, consider pausing the animation at the desired frame in another tool first.

Will the PNG look better than the original GIF?

The PNG will be lossless and support full 24-bit color, removing the 256-color palette constraint of GIF. However, any color banding or dithering already present in the GIF is preserved since those pixels are what the browser decoded.

Why is the PNG file larger than the original GIF?

PNG uses lossless compression suited for full-color images. GIF uses an indexed 256-color palette which is compact for simple graphics. A larger PNG file size is normal, especially for photographic or complex GIF content.

Does the PNG support transparency?

Yes. If the original GIF uses a transparent color index, the browser will decode those pixels as transparent, and the resulting PNG will preserve that transparency correctly.

Is there a file size limit?

The practical limit is your browser's available memory — typically several hundred megabytes. Very large GIFs may be slow to process on low-end devices.
