The math is the same — both modes divide room area by piece area. The distinction helps you label your project correctly. Tiles are typically square or rectangular ceramic/porcelain pieces; planks are long narrow boards used for hardwood, laminate, or LVP flooring.

How do I use the box coverage field?

Most flooring products list coverage on the box label, for example "20 sq ft per box" or "1.86 m² per box". Enter that number and the calculator will divide your total area (including waste) by the box coverage, rounding up to the nearest whole box.

Should I measure in feet or meters?

Use whatever unit appears on your tape measure. The calculator supports inches, feet, centimeters, and meters — just make sure all fields use the same unit throughout.

Does this calculator handle non-rectangular rooms?
