Summary
Enter room dimensions and flooring piece size to calculate how many tiles or planks you need, including a configurable waste allowance.
How it works
- Choose whether your flooring comes in tiles or planks.
- Enter the room length and width in your preferred unit (inches, feet, centimeters, or meters).
- Enter the individual tile or plank length and width in the same unit.
- Set the waste percentage — 10% for straight lays, 15% for offset/brick patterns, 20%+ for diagonal layouts.
- Optionally enter the box coverage (square feet or meters per box) to see how many boxes to buy.
- Click Calculate to see total area, pieces needed, waste allowance, and box count.
Use cases
- Estimate materials before visiting a flooring store or placing an online order.
- Compare how different plank or tile sizes affect total piece count and waste.
- Calculate box quantities for hardwood, laminate, LVP, or vinyl tile projects.
- Account for diagonal or offset installation patterns that increase off-cuts.
- Provide accurate material quotes for flooring installation bids.
- Check if leftover flooring from a previous job covers a new smaller area.
- Plan a bathroom, kitchen, or entryway tile project from scratch.
- Estimate cost by multiplying total pieces by the per-piece price.
