Summary

Type two city names, pick an aircraft type, and instantly see your estimated flight time based on great-circle distance.

How it works

  1. Type a city or airport name in the "From" field to search.
  2. Select your departure city from the autocomplete suggestions.
  3. Repeat for the "To" (destination) field.
  4. Choose an aircraft speed preset: narrow-body jet, wide-body jet, or turboprop.
  5. Click "Calculate Flight Time" to see the estimated duration.
  6. The tool computes great-circle distance via the Haversine formula, divides by cruising speed, then adds a 30-minute ground buffer for taxi, takeoff, and landing.

Use cases

  • Estimate how many hours to budget before booking a flight.
  • Compare flight durations for multiple destination options.
  • Understand approximate flight times for lesser-served city pairs.
  • Plan layover windows by knowing segment durations.
  • Check whether a direct flight or connecting route saves significant time.
  • Help students visualize global geography through flight distances.
  • Quickly verify if an ultra-long-haul route is feasible non-stop.
  • Estimate return leg duration when the outbound was unusually fast.
