Tips

  • Enter finished dimensions and use the seam allowance selector — or enter cut dimensions and set seam allowance to 0.
  • For striped or plaid fabric, add one extra repeat length per large piece manually.
  • Always round up at the fabric store — buy the next ⅛-yard increment above your estimate.
  • Pre-wash fabric before cutting to account for shrinkage.

Summary

Enter your pattern pieces with dimensions and fabric width to instantly calculate total yards needed for your sewing project.

How it works

  1. Enter the width of your fabric bolt (commonly 44", 54", or 60").
  2. Add each pattern piece by specifying its cut width, cut height, and how many copies you need.
  3. The calculator packs pieces into rows across the fabric width and sums the row lengths.
  4. A configurable seam allowance is added around every piece.
  5. Toggle the 10% waste buffer for shrinkage and cutting errors.
  6. Read the total yardage and meter equivalent instantly.
