Summary
Calculate cut and fill earthwork volumes between cross-sections using the average end area method.
How it works
- Enter station spacing (distance between cross-sections) in feet or meters.
- Add each cross-section with its cut area and fill area.
- The calculator applies the average end area formula: V = L × (A1 + A2) / 2.
- Cut and fill volumes are summed independently across all station pairs.
- Net volume shows whether the site is cut-dominant or fill-dominant.
Use cases
- Estimate earthwork quantities for road and highway grading.
- Calculate cut and fill balance for site development projects.
- Produce preliminary volume estimates from cross-section drawings.
- Compare borrow vs. waste requirements before bidding.
- Check earthwork balance before preparing a mass-haul diagram.
