Is this the exact formula HLTV uses?

No. HLTV has never published its exact rating algorithm, especially for Rating 2.0. This calculator uses the community-reverse-engineered version of Rating 1.0 (based on KAST, kills/deaths/assists per round, an impact term, and ADR), which is the version most third-party tools and spreadsheets use. Treat the output as a close estimate, not an official HLTV number.

KAST is the percentage of rounds in which a player got a Kill, an Assist, Survived, or was Traded. CS2 shows it directly on the in-game scoreboard (Tab), so no manual calculation is needed.

ADR is Average Damage per Round: total damage dealt divided by rounds played. It is also shown directly on the CS2 scoreboard.

What counts as a good rating?

A rating of 1.00 represents an average performance. Below 0.85 is a weak game, 0.85-1.04 is average, 1.05-1.19 is above average, 1.20-1.39 is strong, and 1.40+ is an elite, standout performance.

Why do I need rounds played instead of just kills and deaths?

The formula is built on per-round rates (kills per round, deaths per round, assists per round), not raw totals, so it stays comparable across matches of different lengths, including overtime.

What happens if I enter 0 rounds?

Rounds played must be at least 1 since every term in the formula divides by rounds. The tool shows an inline error instead of dividing by zero.
