What is dollar-cost averaging (DCA)?

DCA is an investment strategy where you buy a fixed dollar amount of an asset at regular intervals regardless of price. Over time this reduces the impact of volatility because you buy more coins when prices are low and fewer when prices are high.

How is the average cost basis calculated?

Average cost basis = Total USD invested / Total coins accumulated. Each purchase contributes (spend / price) coins, and the weighted average naturally reflects how much you paid per coin across all buys.

Does this tool store my purchase data?

No data is sent to any server. All calculations run in your browser. If you want to save your entries between sessions, use the Export CSV button to download a copy.

Can I import data from a CSV file?

Yes. Click the Import CSV button and upload a file with columns: Date, USD Amount, Price Per Coin. The tool parses the file client-side and populates the table.

What does unrealized profit/loss mean?

Unrealized P/L is the gain or loss on coins you still hold, calculated as (Current Price - Average Cost Basis) x Total Coins. It becomes "realized" only when you sell.

Can I use this for coins other than Bitcoin?

Yes — the calculator is coin-agnostic. Enter any ticker label you like; the math is the same regardless of which cryptocurrency you are tracking.
