What density is used for concrete?

The default density is 2400 kg/m³, which is standard for normal-weight reinforced concrete. You can adjust this value for lightweight concrete (~1800 kg/m³) or heavyweight concrete (~2600 kg/m³).

What is the formula used?

Cross-sectional area = Outer side² − Inner side² (where Inner side = Outer side − 2 × Wall thickness). Weight = Cross-sectional area × Length × Density.

Why must wall thickness be less than half the outer side?

If the wall thickness is half or more of the outer side, the inner dimension becomes zero or negative — meaning there is no hollow section. Use a solid square column calculator in that case.

Can I use this for steel or other materials?

Yes — just change the density to match your material. Steel is approximately 7850 kg/m³, aluminum 2700 kg/m³, and timber around 500–700 kg/m³.

Are dimensions in mm or m?
