What concrete density should I use?

Normal-weight concrete is 2400 kg/m³ (150 lb/ft³) and is the most common. Heavyweight concrete is around 3200 kg/m³ and is used for radiation shielding. Lightweight concrete is about 1800 kg/m³ and is used where reduced weight is important. You can also enter a custom density.

What is the formula used?

The cross-sectional area of a hollow circle is A = π/4 × (D² − d²), where D is the outer diameter and d is the inner diameter (D − 2t, where t is wall thickness). Volume = A × L. Weight = Volume × Density.

Can I use inches and feet instead of metric?

Yes. Switch to the Imperial tab to enter dimensions in inches and density in lb/ft³. Results are shown in pounds and kilograms.

Why does the calculator show an error for my wall thickness?

The wall thickness must be less than half the outer diameter — otherwise there is no hollow section. For example, a 200 mm outer diameter tube must have a wall thickness below 100 mm.

Does reinforcement affect the weight?

This calculator covers the concrete section only. Rebar adds roughly 1–5% to total weight for typical reinforcement ratios, but that varies by design. Add rebar weight separately if required.

How do I get the concrete pipe weight per meter?

Enter a length of 1 metre (or 1 foot) with your pipe outer diameter and wall thickness. The result is then the weight per metre of that concrete pipe, which you can multiply by total pipe length.
