What is the break-even quantity?

Break-even quantity is the number of units you must actually use before the bulk purchase becomes cheaper than buying regular packs one at a time. Until you reach that number, the regular option is the better deal per dollar spent.

Why factor in shelf life?

If a bulk pack expires before you finish it, wasted units erase your savings. The shelf-life check divides your monthly usage into the bulk quantity to estimate how many months it will last, then compares that to the shelf life you entered.

Does the calculator account for storage costs?

Not automatically, but you can add a storage premium to the bulk price per unit manually. If storing the bulk item costs $X per month, multiply that by the expected months of storage and add it to the bulk price field.

How is the value score calculated?

Value score = savings percentage divided by the bulk quantity ratio (bulk qty / regular qty). A higher score means you get a larger discount without having to buy a disproportionately large amount upfront.
