Wingdings is a symbol font developed by Microsoft in 1990. Each key on the keyboard maps to a decorative symbol — hands, arrows, stars, geometric shapes, and more — instead of a standard letter. It ships with Windows and many Microsoft Office applications.

How does the translation work?

The tool maps each ASCII character (A–Z, a–z, 0–9, and common punctuation) to its corresponding Wingdings Unicode code point in the Private Use Area (U+F020–U+F0FF). It then renders those code points using a local Wingdings font loaded via CSS.

Can I copy the Wingdings output and use it in Word?

Yes. Copy the output text, paste it into Microsoft Word or another Office application, then change the font to Wingdings. The symbols will display correctly because the underlying characters are the correct Wingdings code points.

Why do some characters show as boxes?

If your system does not have the Wingdings font installed and the CSS web font fails to load, characters outside the standard Unicode range may display as empty boxes. The tool loads the font via CSS font-face but a network or permission issue could prevent it.

Does this support Wingdings 2 and Wingdings 3?

This tool focuses on the original Wingdings font. Wingdings 2 and Wingdings 3 use different character mappings and are not covered here.
