Is my video uploaded to a server?

No. The entire conversion happens inside your browser using the HTML5 File API, Canvas, and gif.js. Your video file never leaves your device and no data is sent to any server.

What video formats are supported?

Any format your browser can play natively: MP4 (H.264), WebM (VP8/VP9), MOV, and OGG. AVI and MKV are supported in browsers that have the right codec installed, but MP4 and WebM have the widest support.

Why is the GIF file so large?

GIF is an older format with a 256-color palette per frame and no inter-frame compression, so it is inherently much larger than modern video codecs. Reducing the output width, lowering the FPS, or shortening the clip duration are the most effective ways to reduce GIF file size.

Why does conversion take a while?

gif.js encodes every frame individually in a Web Worker on your CPU. Higher FPS, wider output, or longer clips mean more frames to encode. A 3-second clip at 10 FPS and 320 px width typically encodes in a few seconds; a 10-second clip at 15 FPS and 640 px width may take 30+ seconds.

What is the recommended clip length?

Keep clips under 10 seconds. Longer clips produce very large GIF files and take significantly longer to encode. For longer content consider multiple shorter GIFs or use a video format like WebM or MP4 instead.

Can I loop only part of the video?

Yes. Use the Start Time and End Time fields to trim the section you want to convert. Only frames within that range are sampled.
