Summary

Enter a recent race time to get your VDOT fitness score, predict equivalent race times at other distances, and find your personalized training paces.

How it works

  1. Select the race distance you ran and enter your finish time (hh:mm:ss or mm:ss).
  2. The calculator looks up your VDOT value from Jack Daniels' performance tables.
  3. Equivalent race times are predicted for all standard distances using the same VDOT.
  4. Five training pace zones are derived from your VDOT: Easy, Marathon, Threshold, Interval, and Repetition.
  5. Use the training paces to structure your weekly workouts and build aerobic fitness safely.

Use cases

  • Determine your current running fitness level with a single number.
  • Set realistic race time goals for an upcoming event.
  • Find the correct easy-run pace so you do not overtrain.
  • Calculate threshold and interval paces for quality workouts.
  • Track VDOT improvement over a training cycle.
  • Compare fitness across different race distances.
  • Plan a marathon training block with scientifically grounded paces.
  • Confirm whether a race result was a true performance-equivalent effort.
