How does the tool find the number in each line?

It scans each line for the first occurrence of a number (integer or decimal, optionally preceded by a minus sign for negatives). The rest of the line content is kept intact — only the sort key changes.

What happens to lines with no number?

Lines with no detectable number are grouped together and placed either at the top or the bottom of the sorted output, depending on the option you select.

Does it handle decimal and negative numbers?

Yes. Numbers like -3.14, 0.5, and 1000.99 are all parsed correctly. Commas used as thousands separators (e.g. 1,000) are stripped before parsing.

Does sorting change the line content?

No. Each line is output exactly as you entered it — only their order changes. No characters are added, removed, or modified.

Can I sort a list with duplicate numbers?

Yes. Lines that share the same numeric value keep their original relative order (stable sort).
