Summary

Select your dairy breed, lactation stage, and herd size to estimate daily and annual milk production.

How it works

  1. Select the dairy breed — each breed loads its standard peak daily yield per cow.
  2. Choose the current lactation stage to apply a realistic production multiplier.
  3. Enter the number of cows currently in milk in your herd.
  4. Optionally adjust the average fat and protein percentage for milk composition.
  5. The estimator calculates daily herd output, monthly totals, and the 305-day projected yield.
  6. Review the per-cow and whole-herd figures to plan feed budgets, storage, and sales volumes.

Use cases

  • Project milk revenue before expanding or reducing a dairy herd.
  • Plan bulk tank capacity and refrigeration needs based on expected daily output.
  • Estimate feed costs relative to milk income at each lactation stage.
  • Compare breed selection for a new dairy operation.
  • Calculate annual milk solids (fat + protein) for premium pricing negotiations.
  • Set realistic production benchmarks when transitioning to a new herd.
  • Model the effect of dry-off timing on annual herd production totals.
  • Support grant or loan applications with documented production projections.
