Is my photo uploaded to a server?

No. The entire conversion happens locally in your browser using the heic2any JavaScript library and the HTML Canvas API. Your photo never leaves your device.

Is the output a true multi-page TIFF?

The output is a high-quality raster image with a .tiff extension. Because true multi-page TIFF encoding in pure JavaScript is not yet standardized in browsers, the file uses lossless PNG encoding — which most TIFF-aware applications open without issue.

Does this support HEIF files too?

Yes. HEIF and HEIC are closely related — HEIF is the container format and HEIC is a specific profile of it. Both .heic and .heif files are accepted.

Will the TIFF file be larger than the HEIC?

Yes. The output uses lossless encoding, so it will typically be 2–5x larger than the HEIC source. This is expected and preserves maximum image quality.

Why is conversion slow for large photos?

HEIC decoding is computationally intensive and runs entirely in your browser JavaScript engine. Large photos (12 MP or more) may take several seconds. This is normal behavior.
