Summary
Enter true airspeed, aircraft heading, wind direction, and wind speed to instantly calculate ground speed and wind correction angle.
How it works
- Enter your True Airspeed (TAS) in knots.
- Enter your desired magnetic heading (the direction the nose points) in degrees.
- Enter the wind direction in degrees (the direction the wind is blowing FROM).
- Enter the wind speed in knots.
- The calculator resolves the wind triangle using vector addition to find ground speed.
- Wind Correction Angle (WCA) and headwind/tailwind/crosswind components are also displayed.
Use cases
- Flight planning — estimate en-route ground speed and flight time.
- Fuel calculations based on actual ground speed over a route.
- Filing flight plans that require ground speed entry.
- Verifying E6B or flight computer wind triangle results.
- Cross-country training exercises on wind correction.
- Dispatcher and operations staff checking aircraft ETAs.
- Student pilots learning how wind affects track vs heading.
- Comparing performance under different wind forecast scenarios.
