How does glitch or zalgo text work?

Each character gets extra combining diacritical mark characters (Unicode range U+0300 to U+036F) stacked above, through, and below it. Fonts render all the marks on top of the base letter, producing the distorted look.

Will the text work everywhere I paste it?

It is plain Unicode text, so it works in most apps, chats, and social media. Very high intensity can render inconsistently or get trimmed on platforms with strict character limits.

Is this the same as zalgo text?

"Glitch text" and "zalgo text" describe the same technique: stacking combining marks on normal letters. Some people also call it cursed text or creepy text.

Does this store or send my text anywhere?

No. The conversion runs entirely in your browser with JavaScript. Nothing you type is sent to a server.

Why does high intensity look broken in some apps?

Some renderers cap how many combining marks they stack per character, so very dense text may look cut off. Lowering the intensity or disabling one mark direction usually fixes it.
