How it works

  1. Enter the total system water volume — sum of all pipe, boiler, and radiator/emitter capacity.
  2. Set the cold fill pressure (the static pressure at which the system is charged at rest).
  3. Set the relief valve pressure (the pressure at which the safety valve opens).
  4. Enter the cold supply temperature and the peak hot supply temperature.
  5. The tool computes the water expansion factor e = (v_hot / v_cold) − 1 from specific volume tables.
  6. Applies the ASME formula V_t = (V_s × e) / (1 − P_i / P_f) to get the minimum tank volume.
  7. Recommends the next standard commercial tank size above the calculated minimum.
