Is my event information sent to a server?

No. The QR code and the .ics payload are both generated entirely in your browser. None of the fields you enter ever leave your device.

What calendar apps can scan this code?

Modern iOS and Android camera apps recognize the VEVENT payload and offer to open it in the default calendar app, which then shows an add-to-calendar prompt.

What time zone does the event use?

The start and end time are encoded as local time without a fixed time zone offset, so the scanning device applies its own current time zone. Double-check the time after adding the event if the scanning phone is in a different time zone than the one used to create the code.

Why does scanning open a calendar app instead of a website?

The QR code encodes an iCalendar VEVENT block rather than a URL. Camera apps that recognize this format route it to the calendar app instead of a browser.

Can I download the calendar file without a QR code?
