Where does the exchange rate come from?

The price box is pre-filled with the latest BTC price from our rate table, which takes CoinGecko prices every hour and converts them to EUR with daily mid-market reference rates. The line under the box shows when that price was last updated. Exchanges quote slightly different prices, so type your exchange's price over it when you need the exact figure.

How accurate is the conversion?

The arithmetic is exact to 8 decimal places for BTC (the maximum precision of a satoshi) and 2 decimal places for EUR. Rounding errors are avoided by working with floating-point numbers internally and rounding only for display.

What is a satoshi and can I convert it?

A satoshi is the smallest Bitcoin unit: 0.00000001 BTC. You can enter fractional values like 0.00001 in the BTC field and the tool will calculate the Euro equivalent correctly.

Can I use my exchange's price instead?

Yes. The price box is pre-filled with the hourly BTC price from our rate table, but every exchange quotes a slightly different price and it moves by the second. Type your exchange's price over it and every result updates. The line under the box then says you are using your own price, with a button to switch back to the table rate.

Can I convert EUR back to BTC?

Yes. Type in the EUR field and the BTC amount is calculated automatically. The conversion direction switches seamlessly based on which field you are editing.

Does this tool store any data?

No. All calculations happen in your browser. Nothing is sent to a server or saved in localStorage. Refreshing the page resets everything.
