Deficit (mL) = body weight (kg) x estimated dehydration percentage x 1000. For example, a 10 kg dog with 8% dehydration has a deficit of 800 mL. This volume is added to maintenance and given over the selected replacement period (4, 8, or 12 hours).

What shock rate does this use?

Dogs: up to 90 mL/kg/hr (the full blood volume dose); cats: up to 60 mL/kg/hr. The calculator provides these maximum rates as a reference — in practice clinicians often give shock boluses of 10–20 mL/kg over 15–30 minutes and reassess.

How do I convert mL/hr to drops/min?
