Summary

Pick a root note and scale type to instantly see every note in the scale displayed on a virtual piano keyboard.

How it works

  1. Select a root note from the 12 chromatic pitches (C through B, including sharps).
  2. Choose a scale type: major, natural minor, harmonic minor, melodic minor, pentatonic major, pentatonic minor, blues, or any of the 7 modes.
  3. The tool applies the correct interval pattern (whole steps and half steps) to build the scale from the root.
  4. All scale degrees are highlighted on an interactive two-octave piano keyboard diagram.
  5. The note list and interval formula are shown below the keyboard for quick reference.
  6. Copy all note names to your clipboard with one click.

  • Study modes (Dorian, Phrygian, Lydian, etc.) and how they differ from major.
  • Find pentatonic and blues scales for improvisation in any key.
  • Transpose a familiar scale to a new root and see the new note names instantly.
